Terrycloth 101
In our excitement over our new line of custom-fit cotton sweatshirts, we thought we’d take a moment to shed some light on one of our absolute favorite fabrics to work with and to wear ourselves: terry cotton.
Terry cloth, often referred to simply as terry, is a soft, sturdy and versatile cotton fabric woven with tiny loops on the backside that make the fabric much better at wicking moisture compared to other cottons.
French terry is the cloth most often used for sweatshirts and other garments. French terry will typically have soft, absorbent loops on the inside and a clean, smooth cotton look on the outside. These fabrics are also less likely to pill than their fleece sweatshirt counterparts, so you can count on them lasting longer as well.
Our terry sweatshirts are durable, midweight sweats - an ideal weight for fall through spring. In addition to its moisture-wicking properties that draw sweat away from your body, the ring-spun inner lining is incredibly soft and cozy.
You’re most likely familiar with towel terry fabric, the most popular fabric used for towels and bathrobes due to its ultra-absorbent properties. If you can imagine your softest, fluffiest towel or robe, this will give you a good sense of how these sweatshirts will break in.
Because of its three-season versatility, terry sweatshirts are ideal for layering with dress shirts, flannels, shirt jackets or even chore coats and blazers. We’ve kept our design simple, yet a touch classier than your most casual sweatshirts - a design we easily recommend for a wear-to-work situation. They’re a cool, informal addition to maximize your outfit’s potential while remaining incredibly comfortable.
