How To: Layer Outerwear
One of our absolute favorite pairings is the well-matched combination of a casual basic shirt with cooler-weather outerwear. These layered looks are ideal for spring and fall and provide the perfect blend of comfort, style and functionality.
A henley or long-sleeved crewneck paired with a quilted vest provides a warm, comfortable outdoorsy look. We especially favor this look in the early fall and warmer winter months.
A casual shirt layered under a shirt jacket gives more of a cool, casual look. We particularly like this look for casual nights out; a flannel-lined shirt jacket will be great for the colder months, while an unlined shirt jacket works exceptionally well as a three-season option.
Another easy, versatile option is to layer your basic shirts with a chore coat. A less formal option than a wool blazer, the cotton chore coat is workwear-inspired coat style that pairs wonderfully with more casual shirts, and works as both functional outerwear as well as a sharp casual statement piece.
