What's So Great About Wool-Cashmere?

When it comes to wool and cashmere, we have a hard time picking one over the other. In fact, much of our outerwear, from topcoats to car coats to deck jackets, are made from a blend of these two fabrics.

It’s true that a garment made from a wool-cashmere blend will be more inexpensive than something made from 100% cashmere, but there are also practical benefits from mixing the two together.

The wool-cashmere difference
There’s a reason cashmere carries such cachet: it’s made from the soft undercoat of the Himalayan cashmere goat, and is known for both its scarcity and incredibly soft hand-feel.

But the same soft touch that makes cashmere such a pleasure to wear also means it wears out more quickly. While less apparent in sweaters, tailored jackets and coats made from cashmere will more quickly wear through, giving these premium items a shorter lifespan.

However, blending coarser yet more durable wool with buttery cashmere provides the best of both worlds: a soft, heat-trapping winter fabric that also has the substance needed to hold up over time.

And we’re proud to carry some of the best wool-cashmere you can find. We feature wool-cashmere from Loro Piacenza, a family-owned Italian mill with close to 300 years of weaving experience. In fact, it was Mario Piacenza himself who first discovered the cashmere goat in 1913. Suffice to say, the Piacnezas know a thing or two about making wool-cashmere of the highest quality.
