What is a shirt jacket?
A shirt jacket is a versatile garment that can be worn as a layering piece or outerwear. It shares many of the same design details as a shirt, but is meant to be worn over an existing shirt rather than on its own. For that reason, its fit is slightly more relaxed.
Details of a shirt jacket
Our shirt jackets have a square hem, functional button cuffs, a sturdy spread collar and flap pockets on each side of the chest. Flap chest pockets are a rugged feature that help to differentiate a shirt jacket as outerwear, but they also serve the practical purpose of providing extra storage. They’re great for holding sunglasses, smartphones, airpods, masks, chargers and more.
We make ours from either a sturdy cotton twill with a touch of stretch or classic corduroy. The stretch cotton is great for everyday, year-round wear, while the more rugged corduroy is a fall and winter favorite. Among the colors offered, khaki and grey will give you the most mileage, but olive and merlot are excellent choices if you’re looking for something with a little more pop.

Shirt jackets are a great casual layering piece for the early fall and spring. However, you can extend its life deeper into the cold-weather season by having your shirt jacket lined with cotton flannel.
How to wear a shirt jacket
A shirt jacket is an easy way to add more interest to dressed-down looks like jeans and a tee. For something a bit more polished, consider matching it to an oxford-cloth button down and a pair of chinos. Or for a cozy and casual autumnal look, you can’t go wrong wearing it over a flannel shirt and corduroys.
