Patterned Topcoats

Patterned Topcoats

When it comes to topcoats, many envision a solid-colored piece of outerwear in either black, navy, or charcoal. And while these are all excellent and versatile choices, they’re far from the only options.

Which brings us to: patterned topcoats. Much like a suit or a sportcoat, a patterned topcat can add extra visual interest to your professional wardrobe, and help you stand out from the crowd (if that’s your thing).

Why you should wear a patterned topcoat
If you’re just starting to think about incorporating patterns into your work wardrobe, a patterned topcoat may be the easiest way to start. Why? Because even if you wear a topcoat to work every day, it’s still going to be hung up on a coat rack or tossed over a chair once you make it in. The tailored nature of the topcoat will help you make a smarter entrance each day at the office, but its outerwear status means you can have a little more fun with it. After all, you’re not wearing it into meetings (unless your workplace has some major heating issues).

Surprisingly, patterned topcoats can be more versatile than solid-colored topcoats. A black, navy, or charcoal topcoat will always look more business-wear, whereas a topcoat in a pattern like glen plaid has a rustic feeling that pairs more easily with jeans, sweaters, and boots. In fact, a patterned topcoat will make the rest of your weekend gear look a little more dressed up by simple association.
