Blue Suits for Weddings

Blue Suits for Weddings

We love blue for its versatility, a quality that carries over to wedding suits, too. Here are three ways to wear blue at your wedding, no matter how formal—or informal—the affair.

The Navy Tuxedo
Just because the invite says “black tie,” doesn’t mean the tuxedo must come in one color. The midnight navy tuxedo—which came around with the development of artificial lighting, as it was considered to look better than black under an electric bulb—is a more contemporary twist on a tux. To make the look a little softer and less formal, opt for shawl lapels rather than peak.

The Mid-Navy Suit
A mid-navy suit will look sharp at a less-formal wedding—and will see plenty of wear after the big day. It can be worn with a solid shirt and a dark tie for business wear, or dressed down with a gingham shirt and a silk knit tie for more casual, social occasions.

The Cotton or Linen Suit or Sportcoat
A lightweight, breathable suit or sportcoat made of cotton or linen will stay cool during informal weddings held on hot summer days. If the wedding is particularly casual, you can even opt for a sportcoat rather than a suit, which can see future wear with everything from chinos to white denim.
