Wedding Attire: Making the Case for the Suit
The logistics of wedding-planning are complex enough without having to think about what you’re wearing for the big day. But if you plan ahead and get your clothing ready early, you won’t have to worry about too-short sleeves or an ill-fitting jacket the day-of. In this two-part series, we’re going to make the case for wearing a tuxedo or a suit on your wedding day. Today we’re finishing with the suit.
The stereotypical groom cake-topper may wear a tuxedo, but that’s not the case for every guy. Those who wish to walk down the aisle in black tie should by all means do so, but formalwear isn’t the only way to go.
Part of the tuxedo’s appeal is that it is not what men wear to the workplace, so donning one for your wedding day helps mark the significance of the occasion. But in today’s more casual world, where many men wear a button-down shirt and jeans or chinos as office-wear, the suit can stand out as a more formal garment on its own.
As opposed to the more stringent rules of black tie, selecting a suit for your wedding also presents more options for fabric and color. For instance, you could select a lightly colored cotton or linen suit for an outdoor wedding in the spring or summer. Or choose a solid suit in grey, navy, or mid-blue that could be worn again to other weddings and formal occasions—or yes, even the office.
