Chino Trousers: The Ideal In-Between
When you think about chinos, you might imagine a pair of khakis being worn with a button-down shirt at the office or with a cozy flannel shirt on the weekend.
Change the word to “trousers,” and your vision may shift to the bottom half of a suit, or a pair of sharply creased wool pants being worn with a blazer and a tie.
One is seen as everyday casual, the other as polished and elevated. But what if there was an in-between?
Well, there already is, and it happens to be the chino trouser.
What’s the difference between chino trousers and regular chinos?
Chino trousers differ from plain old chinos in a few key ways. While both are made from chino fabric , chino trousers have:
A slightly higher rise
An extended tab closure that helps shirts stay tucked-in
A crease running down the middle of the leg
An “invisible hem” without visible stitching
1.5-2” of seam allowance to allow for alterations and better protect the fabric
Any of Blank Label’s chino fabrics can be ordered in a trouser cut; to do so, just send an email to sayhi@blanklabel.com for assistance.
Why wear a chino trouser?
Chino trousers are an ideal in-between garment, with casual chinos on one end and wool trousers on the other. That means you can still wear them with an open-neck flannel shirt without looking out of place, but you can also pair them to a sportcoat and a tie without making your bottom half look underdressed.
Here are a few suggestions on how chino trousers could work in your wardrobe:
With a long-sleeve, solid polo
With an oxford cloth button-down and a tweed sportcoat.
With a spread collar fine check shirt and a navy textured weave sportcoat.
