Pairing Socks With Sock Fancy

Sock Fancy is a subscription service that provides unique, often boldly patterned socks to users each month. It's a great choice for anyone looking to add extra personality to their typical work or weekend wardrobe, but it also begs the question: how can such boldly colored or patterned socks work into one of your standard outfits?

Pair Solid Pants With Patterned Socks.

An easy maxim to follow is to wear solid pants with patterned socks, or vice versa. Of course, patterned pants can work with patterned socks—if the two are sufficiently different—but for the sake of this simple exercise, we'll stick to the rule above.

You don't want your socks and pants to "match" perfectly together: in fact, they look better if they clash. But the trick is creating a clash with high contrast, which allows the sock and pants to stand out against one another in distinct, complimentary ways.

Pair Warm Socks With Cool Pants
The easiest approach is pairing socks in warmer, brighter tones to pants in cool colors like navy or blue, as these colors are worn most often in professional environments. The more sober hues of the cool pants also balance out the attention-grabbing tone or pattern of the socks.

Pair Cool Socks With Warm Pants
The louder option is to wear a pair of warm pants, whether it's bold salmon or simply a lighter shade of khaki, with a darker sock. You'll be inviting more attention to yourself with this look, but that's also the point.

Pair Cool Socks With Cool Pants
An exception to the rules above is pairing cool-on-cool. This works particularly well with pants in lighter shades of grey, which will still create the desired contrast when paired against a dark sock.
