Blue and white are the colors most often held up as the “standard” options for a dress shirt. Those two hues are staples for a reason—they blend in, and match with most anything. What’s often overlooked is the “third option,” aka the pink shirt.

The fact that pink won’t blend in so easily is a feature, not a bug. But it’s nearly as versatile as its more sober cousins, making it just as suited for office wear but far less anonymous.

Blue and white shirts easily pair with a wide range of professional suit colors because they set up a high contrast without dominating the look. Think of a light blue shirt set against a deep navy suit, or a white shirt worn with a charcoal double-breasted. Pink is light enough to pull off the same trick, yet bright enough to stand out on its own.

Pink also pairs more easily with the type of clothing associated with casual dress codes, like khakis and light-colored chinos. Better yet, the pop of color pink provides makes it easier to transition to a casual setting without looking like you’ve walked in straight from work.

There’s diversity among pink shirts as well. A solid pink twill or oxford may be the most classic examples, but a slightly more subtle take can be found in the form of a pink micro-check.
