Making the Case for the Shirt Cuff Monogram

One of the things that makes a monogram so charming is discretion. Placing your initials inside a part of your clothing that others won’t see, like the lining of your suit jacket or inside of your shirt’s collar, can be an enjoyable way to remind yourself that the clothing was made specifically for you.

One place that is definitely not discreet is the shirt cuff. A cuff monogram can be controversial, but we’d like to make the argument for it.

Why Get a Shirt Cuff Monogram
Sure, placing your initials where everyone will see them is a bold statement. Some might even compare it to a piece of clothing that shows off a designer logo.

But here’s where a cuff monogram is different. It says who you are, and announces that the clothing was made for you—but says nothing about the maker (or its price). And if both the shirt and the suit have been made custom for you, only about a quarter inch of the sleeve should be visible—just enough to provide a peek of your monogram when the arm is at rest.

Think of it as another way to imprint your own personality, rather than a brand’s, onto your clothing.

Of course, there are more or less bold ways to monogram a shirt cuff. The bolder route would have a monogram stitched with contrast color and a more noticeable font. If you desire a more subtle approach, you can have your monogram stitched with a light or matching color in a more minimal font.
