How Shorts Should Fit
In an age of increasingly casual dress norms, shorts can still be a lightning rod for controversy.
When worn too loose and too long, shorts can appear sloppy and fratty. But shorts cut too high and too tight may draw unwanted comparisons to European swimwear.
What to do? As is often the case in clothing, it’s all about balance. While our custom made shorts vary in length and leg opening based on the client’s physique, there are some general guidelines on how shorts should fit.
The leg opening should never be so loose as to appear baggy or like a pair of swim trunks, but it should not constrict movement or cause the fabric to pull. The length should hit just above the knee to appear clean and classic. You may consider going an inch or two higher for a more modern and casual look, but not much above that.
And above all—just say no to below-the-knee.
